Full licence or source code: choosing how to own your trading platform

Every broker eventually faces the same question: rent a platform, license it to run yourself, or own the code. Each model trades cost, control and speed in different ways.

Renting a platform

Many vendors and resellers offer platforms on a monthly basis, often hosted by someone else. It can be the quickest way to start, but recurring fees continue for as long as you operate, terms may limit the number of accounts, and you depend on the provider for changes.

A perpetual licence on your own servers

With a perpetual licence you pay once and run the complete platform on infrastructure you choose. You control where data lives and how the servers are operated, and you avoid a monthly platform fee. Altus Trader’s Full Licence costs a one-time $50,000, with updates and engineering support at $1,000 a month.

Owning the source code

A source code licence adds the complete codebase, so your team can review, modify and extend every part of the platform without waiting for a vendor’s roadmap. It suits technology-led brokers, banks and fintech companies with their own engineering teams. Altus Trader’s Source Code Licence costs a one-time $100,000 and includes build documentation, API references and deployment runbooks.

How to decide

  • Choose the Full Licence if you want control of your servers and costs, and are happy for Altus Trader to develop the platform.
  • Choose the Source Code Licence if you plan to customise the platform, need to review the code, or want to build products on top of it.

Both licences include all terminals, both back-office apps, all three servers, the three APIs, synthetic instruments, copy trading and the branding generator, with no limit on client accounts. Compare them side by side on the pricing page.
